Description: From a Photograph to a Story: An Investigative Research Journey It all started with a simple request: “Can you tell us more about this photograph?” The photo had been spotted in a local grocery store. We knew it was Omaha, but beyond that, we had very little information to go on. There was one important clue—we had been the ones who provided the image several years earlier! What began as a seemingly straightforward request for information quickly turned into a fascinating investigation. We followed clues, explored collections and resources, connected pieces of information, and uncovered a story that was far richer than we initially imagined. Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at this unexpected research journey and discover how a single photograph can become the starting point for a deeper exploration of history. Along the way, we’ll examine the research strategies, sources, challenges, and discoveries that made this such a wonderful lesson in investigative research and document discovery. |
| Bio: Thomas Neal serves as Executive Director of the Douglas County Historical Society, where he is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories that have shaped Douglas County and the Omaha area. A passionate historian, researcher, and storyteller, Tom has spent years uncovering local history and helping connect people with the places, events, and individuals that came before them. His presentations blend historical research with engaging storytelling, bringing the past to life in ways that are both informative and accessible. Through his work with the Douglas County Historical Society, Tom continues to inspire curiosity about our community's history and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
